It was a white room
The room I ran into
It was a frightening place
People cried and laughed, depending on what they found out soon
Enough
This one's in a coma
She'll probably come out soon
Her insurance just barely covers her
She'll be awake before noon
Her family has cried before
They'd thought she wouldn't come out
Now they laugh and cheer
Now they celebrate
They know she'll be all right
At least for the time being
The doctors all came to say goodbye
They had all been quite nice to her
She has tears in her eyes
Thanks her God she's still alive
Her mother is so happy
Her father's delirious
I don't even know this woman's name
But I'm happy for her, all the same
And we danced to celebrate life
Told her husband she was a beautiful bride
Hoped they'd have good lives to live
As any good stranger did,
I then made my exit
But I saw a peculiar sight
A man lay on the floor outside
He seemed weak
And I wondered what I was witnessing
I lean down to hold him
He tells me his story
He's been diagnosed with cancer
And he's got no family
He was trying to get chemotherapy
But he didn't have the money
Yes, I'm afraid
This poor man will die
Because medicine isn't free
And he's got no currency

A look at our healthcare system. I imagined I was Regina Spektor when I was writing this.
