Place of Despair

Missing image

They leave life behind -

whoever enters here,

in the garden of death,

this dwelling of despair;

where there is no hope

growing on the vine,

and masks of stone

become resigned

to fate as dark as clay;

where destinies are marked

in moments of their last day;

and a soul lingers not -

whoever enters here,

in this place that God forgot.

Author notes

Where the water of life has all run dry... Thank you Jin, for sharing this quote:

"Abandon hope, all ye who enter here." ~ Dante, Divina Commedia. It's the inscription at the entrance to Hell. "This way to the sorrowful city. This way for eternal suffering. This way to
join the lost people... Abandon all hope, you who enter!"

    more than enjoyable.

    I loved this from start to finish Rose, and found it too interesting to be depressing.

    Never mind that, I loved this sad sorrowful piece, as I do all your writes. I think you really poured out your sadness, hopelessness, and despair, in this poem, and I'm glad for it. Reading this sadness, one has to wonder what we've got in our lives to be so sorrowful about.

    P.S. my 1800th comment!
    Wooohooo
    Always inspiring,

    Haunting...

    This write carries with it the dank musty smell of the burial chamber...the vast sprawling catacombs of the dead...chilling and haunting it conjures forth dread images that send icy fingers of fear to grip the heart in their terrible clutch...worthy of no less an author than Poe himself!...an excellent write!..regards Dan xxx

    abandon hope, all ye who enter here--this is a dark and lovely write, full of the night time musings of a lost soul. Oh, how I can relate to this, as I sometimes feel that this is the city in which I dwell. Bravo!!!

    "They leave life behind
    who enter here -
    the garden of death,
    this city of despair..."

    Wonderful poem. A brooding darkness pervades this penning and the image is a perfect match. Well done!
