Small teacher sitting in the ole school house
blue eyes 'n'
hair of red.
Ignorant white men trying to woo her
with no respect or regard
to her feelings or her beauty.
Falling deep into history's woe
for this is slavery's days it is.
Illegal thoughts consume her
for what is her secret crush?
But a little ole black man
a heart of gold in his being.
But them white boys see the connection
Envy and hate in their hearts.
The hate falls from them white men's heart
hunt down the black boy they do
track him down and threat him.
But in secret lover's hearts
the love between them grows.
But must stay hidden secrets
for this black man's life would end.
Then it happened
a ole white man saw them
kissing on the white gazebo there.
This white man's heart full of anger
for this woman he wanted to love
took the gun to the black man
and shot him dead in the chest
'n' raped the white girl gave her his child.
Tears fell from her face
this little Irish woman so crushed
and maybe one day she will tell them
for every document until her last of days
she took the black man's last name.

An incredible story!!!! I applaud your diction, the way you use the language to bring the reader in real close, feel the racist pain, the proud response of the Irish woman . . . OH SO WELL DONE!!!!!!!

What a legacy to cherish, and tell. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Great story/write
I think I'm reading this story right now, or something very like it, To Kill a Mockingbird.
There are almost no words, and we are supposed to be writers.

This event has been repeated throughout history. It is sad that we ever had to live in a world that harbored hatred because of ethnicity. You have shared the story told by your grandparents well. Very worthy of being highlighted. An excelleant tale of reality, and how we should always be allowed to cross that color barrier when it comes to love, and respect.
Much Love Always ♥

i liked this a lot, but it was very sad.

This is very well written. And once upon a time I am sure stuff like this did happen. But know now that all those prejudices are behind us. And we are all free to love those whom we wish too.
Great read. Great write. Flows well. Good job

Yes this story was around long before that book was written. May have even stemmed from it I don't know. This was told to me by my great grandmother. She had lots of stories to tell me.
I read the book, but she passed before the book was written.

And so touching, very powerful..

its so great when you can take such a sad story and turn it into a touching work. prejudice and hatred are some of the oldest feelings of mankind and its shown up in all parts of life and all times. even in her depair her love remained. this is a wonderful work WTG good luck in the contest.

Beautiful write. Love is love and love is beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing this.
-
Wonderful write, a great way of writting about a terrible and horrific tragedy that happened to them both. The ignorance of men that becomes racism and hate is such an evil. Loved the writting style.

So very sad. I can almost relate to this poem because I once loved a black woman. and her children were aganst the relationship, because I am a white man. I love the way that you tell a story, its almost like your in the room with me telling the story.
