All you can see is perfection
Through those small rose tinted glasses.
New candidates stand for election;
New lies for blindly groping masses.
The promises will soon be broken
Their fabric of lies cut to ribbons
The fairytale façade, a token,
They run amok like wild gibbons.
Through those small rose tinted glasses.
New candidates stand for election;
New lies for blindly groping masses.
The promises will soon be broken
Their fabric of lies cut to ribbons
The fairytale façade, a token,
They run amok like wild gibbons.
Author notes
Word Bank Contest(Fairytale, Tinted,Perfection, Lies, Broken, Facade, Blindly, Ribbons)
For some reason this must be in the authors notes = Don't Trust Me.
I think it should be a required motto for nearly all politicians.

YOU ARE IN FOR A TREAT! LINK TO GIBBON VOCALS

-
Is that political debate in the halls of Congress?
-
-
We get our leaders the same way we get network programming. How is that for a scary thought? Gibbons are the ones with the wierd mysterious high pitch lyrical vocalizations. larson(far side) had a cartoon of a new age seer with the caption " And in the middle of the trance he began to channel gus, a gibbon who lived 4 thousand years ago..."
-
-
Lol cool. I love Larson. What is he drawing these days?
-
-
He retired at the top of his game...
Hope he makes a comeback
It sounded a bit democratic/urban to me...
but definitely social commentary!
-
-
-
I hear you
I think the people should keep watch and in their first lie we should have them impeached and keep doing this until our government if back for the people we do hold the power to get it cleaned up for sure

-
-
If we did that, none of them would ever make it to the inaguration.

Excellent
Your trust in our candidates shines through 'a glass darkly' (lol). A very fine satire on our political process. imagery, rhythm and rhyme are just fine.
-
-
Thank you for reading and commenting. I am glad you got the satire. From my non-public comments, not everyone got the satire.
Mike -

You are quite welcome. Yes, I find many individuals who fail to understand that satire is a form of wry humor. I find that sad.
-
-
-
I don't understand the hate and insults for these people, when we're literally the ones that put them in power, that would make us the Gibbons, and them the Gibbon's appointed leaders...

I have studied politics for years. The more that I study the subject the more dim my view of the politician becomes. I concede that there are a few who stand out as having brains. Most do not. I worked in government for several years. What I saw disgusted me. I did not see much in the way of intelligence.
You mention book learning as a sign of intelligence. That is a matter that we will have to agree to disagree on as is your higher opinion of lawyers.
As for the last comment. I make a large part of my living through public speaking. The type of work that I do makes it critical not to make any mistakes.
I very much appreciate your comments. I am always open to intelligent discussion with people who disagree with me. Thank you for reading and taking the time to leave your comment.
Mike
I wish you had not removed you intial comment. It was a great reaction to the poem. I do not hate politicians. First, hatred takes alot of effort. Second, this is a satire on politicians in general. It is true that I called some politicians gibbons, I also spoke of the electorate as blindly groping masses. Again, the poem is satire.
In general, I find that the longer the person has been in office, the more they be become a politcal animal instead of a leader. There are a few who stand out.
I am sorry if the poem offended you. Metaphors are not always pretty, especially in satire. Personally, I am always open to discourse.
Thank you for commenting.

Gibbons??? Maybe we are looking at the wrong species to govern our countries?
Great write,
well done.

I think the problem is that most of those who would govern have the brain capacities of lower primates. Perhaps we should only choose people who do not want the job.

Vote for Gibbons '08! This poem is almost light hearted with a powerful message lurking beneath the surface. I'm not going to lie, the title was what drew me in, but the short, biting and gibbon-tastic
metaphor for politicians made me love this poem. It's not a long tirade against the candidates but rather a comment on the sly. Very political, thought provoking and rather amusing. Wonderful write.
Blessings,
Lilly

I am glad you enjoyed the poem. It was inspired by the wordbank and watching the news. I am a news junkie and I read alot. I also spent about 5 years working for state government. I have seen the lower primates in their own environment.
I chose the title after the poem was done. Something about it scread Tabloid Title Time. Thank you for reading and commenting.

monkey business
I'm not sure but I don't think gibbons would attack Iraq for oil. I guess they are just too civilised for that. It takes humans to stoop that low. Well written. -
-
I figured that some people would take the poem to be directed at a particular party. It is actually generic. I do not see any one party holding a monopoly on brains or the lack of them. As I mentioned to a previous comment, it just depends on which feces throwing monkey you prefer to be the target of.
Thank you much for reading and commenting.

Some Monkey Business!
Hearty laughter over this write, friend! As we up here in Canada groan with you for the end of this election year for you, and love any satire or anything to help us all get through it.I am seeing monkeys! You have done it for us in this completely entertaining poem...Love it, Love it! Bravo!

I am glad you enjoyed the poem. I live close to the Canadian border and listen to Canadian talk radio debate our politics all the time. I know almost as much about Quebec politics as I do those in my own state. Your monkeys are as amusing as ours. As are those in England, France and elsewhere.
Is Harper going to force an election soon?

Re: Wild Gibbons Stand for Election
WOW! Couldn't have said this any better myself!!! Super poem -- great political statement -- excellent title! The poems' subtlety and yet frankness in place like the last line are outstanding! WOW again! It's just great -- good luck in the contest!

The longer I observe the process the more that I think most politicians are mindless monkeys. It doesn't matter if it is state, federal, or local politics or what the political agenda is. The bigger question is whose feces do I want to get hit by?

I am glad you liked it. The selections from the wordbank seemed too sweet for my muse tonight. Turning loose on politicians fit my mindset better.
-
-
Nice take on the word bank. I would never have thought of it. I like the imagery I see gibbons in official uniforms scratching each other and howling.

Thank you. I was thinking along the same lines. Like a scene from Planet of the Apes.
