Humble Astonishment

In a time when darkness

and corruption

bled into our lives.

Deceptions breath

was stark and alive.

Hidden behind curtains

of custom and tradition.

Soul-fully suffocating

the en-slaved children

of earthly heaven.

One lone man dared

to ask a bold teacher of his time;

"We do not know what you say,

pray, you mean directly...unto God?"

Questioningly, he plead mightily;

"No un-blemished sheep

have we here to bleed upon the altar,

acceptable and fit for sacrifice."

Defining moments in our lives,

occur in split seconds;

and this the Son of God

did recognize.

A vast prophetic journey lay

ahead of him; it was then

and there he knew...the

reality of mercy and blessed truth.

From the cross of suffering,

mighty words of understanding

rang out;

"Father, please forgive them,

they know..not...what they do."

and to this end,

I do not pretend to comprehend,

the vast power of this mans love,

for me and you.

Humble Astonishment.

Author notes

contest prompt: Isaiah 53 from the scriptures of the bible.
( I apologize I went over 20 lines)

i googled it...
and much controversary this chapter discusses;

for me...it's the journey and devotion of a man
who is said to reflect a fathers enormous love, hopes and dreams
for us to live and feast, as his beloved children.

I know of no other God, who speaks of freedom and love,
more powerfully through his actions and word then the
Father, Creator of all, who calls himself, "I AM."

Blessings to you!

    Wow i absoulutly adore this poem. The ending was the best:
    and to this end,
    I do not pretend to comprehend,
    the vast power of this mans love,
    for me and you.
    Humble Astonishment.
    I can say that this ending and this poem was one of the best poems i have read on this site. Thanks for allowing me to read this one. I much appreciate it.

    Right. It would be impossible for anyone else to forgive so much although some of the monks have tried in other, more spiritual times. So much is wrong, most of us just have to pick and choose the smaller things to forgive.

    I waiver on this one. I am impressed by your take on this...however, some of the wording or punctuation just didn't feel right. Certain parts I had to read twice. I dunno, but a good point none the less.
