Life is such a mystery
A picture show for all to see
A psychopath on masquerade
A suicidal run away
Come, everyone, sit
Watch my tears
The painful memories
From all these years
Put on a smile
Enjoy the show
A mask to hide
The lies you know
A lover waits
Behind closed doors
Someone whose lies
You can't ignore
Reach out to me,
Some sympathy
I cannot hide
The pain, you see?
I hide away
I must escape
I cannot live
This Masquerade
Author notes
I wrote this one in 1989 when my brother-in-law committed suicide. This one is for you Steve. I miss you.

Suicide is something that touches loved ones forever. Your poem relects that in a beautiful way. You've penned your emotions in a strong and solid form. Well done! Thanks for entering my contest. I'm honored to have you share your work here. Good luck!

Beautiful poem. The rhyme and flow work very well in this piece. Although I've never had a loved one commit suicide, I've known some who have attempted it. I myself have thought about it, but something has always kept me from trying, thank God. It's pretty obvious to see why something like this would take such an emotional toll on someone. Such a tragic event that you've turned into such a beautiful masterpiece. Good luck in the contest!

Wow.. I'm somewhat, speechless.
I'm so sorry that you had to go through the pain of a loved one committing suicide, i know the pain that brings and how much it lingers.
This poem is fantastic, you've bought such power to your words and the emotions lingering around your words are very clear.
'Put on a smile
Enjoy the show
A mask to hide
The lies you know'
This was my favourite verse, however i also loved the way you ended this piece:
'I hide away
I must escape
I cannot live
This Masquerade'
You have a talent and this gave me goosebumps after I read it, again, I'm sorry about your loss.
Thanks for entering, and good luck!
