I give you a smile
I give you a hug
you give me a growl
then a scornful shrug
were you like this from the start
did you not arrive in this world with a heart
why is it that kindness from you is never seen
why do you insist on being so mean
I've tried so hard to get to the inner you
but try as I might, I just can't get through
you're hard as nails, your pain must run deep
but part of me says, it's pain you work hard to keep
you see it takes little effort to be nice
to lend a smile, you need not think twice
but you enjoy your throne of a hardcore frown
where you watch your effort to bring others down
and when you fail, you are more miserable than before
can't you understand, you could have happiness galore
stop wasting your days hating life and live for a change
and of course, that frown on your face, you'll have to rearrange
