I Ride Gymkhana (Got a Problem with that?!)

So you say I'm a 'podunk speed rider'!
Your ignorance makes me laugh!
Oh, how I wish you would've said that to my face,
As if being an adult makes your opinion greater than mine.
Maybe you should ride my horse some time!
No...
Maybe you should ride her in the heat of the moment,
When she's dancing under you,
Can't stand still because she knows what she has to do.
She has to be the fastest,
The one to complete the pattern without fault.
You should feel the adrenaline and the fear
Pulsing in your veins,
Making you sweat,
Even when you're just sitting there,
Barely touching the reins or her sides.
Maybe you should feel the way the reins burn into your skin,
Permanently scarring your still delicate hands,
Like you're gripping fire with just your fingertips,
Trying to control a storm raging beneath you.
You should know what it's like to feel as though
You're holding a loaded gun,
Cocked and ready to go.
All you need to do is simply touch the trigger
And BAM!
You're gone!
You should know what it's like to be just one split second away
From breaking your neck
Should the worst happen and you fall off,
Or feeling your innards being crushed into the sand
When the horse steps on you.
You should try racing against time,
Your heart pressed against your ribcage,
Lungs at their largest,
Your life depending on the matter of seconds it takes
For you to turn the barrel,
For you to turn the pole,
For you to get inside that circle and get out
Without ever obscuring the white line drawn just for you
To step on or step over.
It's like you're life is ticking away with every little millisecond,
The clock ticking in your head as the sand and dust flies behind you,
Tic toc tic toc tic toc!
One mistep and BOOM!
The bomb explodes inside your chest because you blew your only chance.
But to ride for the glory
Of being the swiftest rider,
To be the champion,
Oh, you should know what it's like.
All the blood, sweat, and tears
You put into just a few seconds of your life,
You should know that its worth it.
So you dare call me a 'yahoo speed rider'?
Ha!
Maybe the next time you speak such slander,
You might want to try riding a skilled speed horse,
Because the people who've put their time, effort,
Strength, and even their hearts
Into winning these races
Don't waste time on stuck-up know-it-alls like you.

Author notes

Hey! If you're not living on the edge, you're taking up way too much space! I just get tired of my sport being critisized by those who know so little yet act as if they know so much.
