One Christmas

Christmas was over,
a happier Christmas than we had expected
much happier.

Ray was well, and happy
still as thin as a rake
but with hair

We sat on armchairs
no need to rush
to the hospital
the children
all playing
nothing to cook
no meetings
nothing at all.

Suddenly
I was crying
like a baby

the worst year
was over
and I
was too exhausted
to move.
