The Fool

He dances and plays,
To the tune of days,
Long ago for kings,
And Ladies fanciful things,

Dreams long gone,
Have never been,
Seen or done,
under his impish grin,

Roll the dice,
Chance the fates,
Deal cards thrice,
To either gate,

Dressed to please,
And draw the eye,
Speaking of things,
Both truths and lies,

Dance to the tune,
Of a laughing cry,
None see the paint,
Fade with wet lines,

Pain is laughter,
Time takes chance,
Love is sorrow,
The latter a wrenching lance,

Offered a choice,
To smirk for all days,
Immortalized now,
In a deck to guide ways,

Wonder and toy,
With the Fates gifts,
Greatest joke told and imparted,
He chuckles in silent fits...
