The heavy fog envelops me
As I sit here on this shore
Watching the tide cascade at my feet
Longing for so much more
Than the over-ripened memories
Of a life filled with regret,
Too many mistakes to mention,
And far too many to forget.
Shrouded in my sorrow
As I rest in this shadowed cove,
Kissed only by the wind
The dark permeates my soul,
Soft goodbyes whisper,
Echo and then repeat,
Double time, then triplicate
Bitter memories and sweet,
Tumble down all over me
As the waves lap at the fence,
I know letting them take control
Makes no kind of sense,
But on nights like this
When the fog comes rolling in,
I am drawn to this spot
By the ocean and the wind,
Seeking salvation and release,
From the beast that lives within.
