shifts slowly through the haze
gently giving flowers one last dance
as they pale in Summers’ waning days
trees once green, now redressed
in golden hues to join the dance
spread their carpet crisp and thick
inviting just one more chance
slowly withering vines grow weak
their leaves gone, laid to rest
promising to return next year
dressed in their very best
I wonder if the fall of summers’ beauty
through the chill of Autumn nights
is to bring its promise of things to come
of Springs’ freshness and delights
I love this brief reprieve, this lull
and look back in sweet reverie
at youthful days and blissful nights
to the person that is me
of birds and flowers and beauty
nature sings of goodness yet to come
and revels in its glory
the unmatched beauty of Autumn

Autumn is my favorite time of year. I'll probably tweak this poem a little before I'm satisfied with it.

Hood Winked!!
The words you paint just settle gently in my mind as the lines flow with ease from the page with descriptive imagery. You capture the power of autumn as nature changes her skirts all the beauty in the world around us just there if we take the time to look. The background enhances the experience. I have enjoyed my journey through your work seems all too short. Thank you for the pleasure.

Goody Goody, the heat is finally gone away. Lovely Autumn days are here I wish too stay. How you doing? did you have a happy birthday?

Beautifully written, Ma'am Catz.
A pity we only have Summer and Rain here. Autumn is between summer and winter.... How about spring? Between winter and summer?

Everything about this poem is stunning. Autumn is my favorite time of the year. I could sit and read this poem over and over again and again, almost like looking out my back window into the woods we sit in front of. Simply gorgeous! I wish you well in the Comp!

Beautiful write I loved the way you brought us out of summer into the beautiful season of Autumn. Your discriptive view of Autumn was oytstanding then leading into winter, spring and summer with the assurance that the beautiful scenes of Autumn would soon return again. So fitting the last line.
the unmatched beauty of Autumn.
Good Luck in the contest.

lovely
You have packed in the imagery, and I like the sentiment of "giving flowers one last dance". This is a kind and gentle reverie on the change of seasons. The bg is awesome complement to the poem. Best of luck in the contest!

Wonderful poem.

When is my favorite time of year?...not summer that is for sure...and not winter, both are too extreme.
It's beautiful, the poem I mean, well, so is Autumn, but I meant the poem, it reads effortlessly which is nice since I should have been in bed an hour ago.
You've found the essence of Autumn, the best parts of it.
Too bad Fall leads to Winter and 150 inches of seasonal Maine snow.
