we grow, embryo to woman
without a single chance
to change our course-
unsturdy ships,
we falter against
the unsteady tides
spilling into
our hearts.
each sheet of water
blazes with
malleable ferocity
but ends with less
warning than its
magical beginning;
leaves only
the mourning echo
of a mother whose hands
cannot keep holding
back the winds.

This is very good. I have tried writing something incorporating the sea (one of my favorite things ever!) but did not do it as much justice as you have with this poem. The mother motif is wonderful and well-applied - that last stanza makes me think of how there are things even a mother can't do for her child. Makes me feel this is a poem on growing from a girl into a woman. Something very deep to write for Esha, so thank you
