Soup for one.

I sit here in the kitchen with a bowl and spoon.
On this hot and humid summer's afternoon.

I am hot and sticky,long sleeve shirt,swim trunks,face unshaved
As I am alone with this bowl of soup from all the money saved.

One thing I do know that pleases me
That is I have my honest dignity.

This economy has eaten me alive
I wonder how at times I can survive.

So on this hot day I am alone,it's no fun
When you are broke and enjoying soup for one.

              The barefoot poet.

Author notes

The state of the economy for some.

Loneliness + Money Woes = Good poetry apparently.

This was a good write Pat. I've been there before many a time. I tell you the trick...

(Buy alphabet soup and spell dirty words in it when no one is watching)

    That always improves my mood.

Or of course you can just eat bread with your soup and personify the bread. Make up a story line to go with your soup and bread. Mine always ends up being suicidal bread (and always named Phil for some reason).

I enjoyed the read, thank you my friend, and times, they are gonna get better. You can bet your bottom dollar, literally.

    Ecellent, Dude!

I agree and misery loves good company. It is time for a funny movie. Don't forget the microwave potato ... cut it in soup and it becomes a miser elite chowder. Take care! KC

Says alot about the current state of our
economic atmosphere, but still manages to
keep it light and hopeful. Clappies for not
    sinking into despair! Blue

Pat ... this lingers deep in the heart
what a capture of the times ... though it hasn't been this hard on me, it has been hard on me, and I'm just a kid

thank you for this brilliant scribe; so much caught in so little.

    Best wishes.

A fine poem anytime, but especially now in these times when so many folks do not even have a roof over their heads. Soup is good, eat it you should.

...I wonder how many times I can survive.....
    Wow Pat!.....very heavy line...love it...
Yet it made me feel sad for not only you...but us all...
we are all sittin ducks wait for the rich to pick our pockets like ravens pick at road kill.
Our chickens have come home to roost....Reagan said less government as they took money from our checks...what the fuck were we paying for!!!
Why did we give our money to them when they did not want to do anything but take it!!.
We are circling the drain Pat....the broken dream that was America is now ...like Rome....burning!

    God help us all,
    LOWELL POE

    Excellent

Hey, it connects well...'cause I had been through it. You create the mood so well with words that are the least bit presumptuous. To me, that's true poetry!
    Congrats, friend.

This is such a poignant picture for our troubled times, made all the more real by the addition of your own personal colour. You use your soup wisely, feeding the souls and hearts of your readers. Bravo!

    Interesting twist

Economy eating away at you as you try to find something you can buy to eat. You do need to find someone to share the soup with though.
