The Top Step

She came home, went upstairs and tried to fall asleep,
and when she did, that's when she heard, that sound start to creep.
Footsteps at the bottom of the wooden staircase start,
each one as loud to her as the thumping of her heart.
Half way up she's completely frozen stiff with fear,
who could it be coming up, for she lived alone out here?
Her breath completely held as the footsteps reached the top,
the air so quiet you could have heard the smallest pin drop.
But then it started over from the bottom once again,
repeating every night like a punishment for sin.

Author notes

Ok, this really happened to my mom. She said when she was in her 20's she lived in this old creepy house and every night she heard these footsteps coming up the stairs but when they reached the top they wouldn't go any further. Instead they would start over at the bottom again. And if she got up to check it out it stopped but as soon as she laid back down again it would start up again.

I doubt I would be able to get much sleep with this going on.
but environments apparently can hold on to
frequencies of events that went on in the past

and I love a good ghost story

I so can relate to this! I use to live in a hotel with my Mom. (she was the manager) Anyways it was haunted, we stayed in a apartment above her. Every time I would go in there I felt like I was going to be stabbed. It was so scary. I would also here footsteps coming up the stairs. There was actual wet footprints near our room. But no one could have gotten in. Thank you for sharing. On top"She cam home," I think you meant came. Blessed Be! ~~Iridessa MoonFlower~~
