I watched the wind swept high plateau outspread
Where standing stones still mushroom from the loam,
Where moonlight makes them seem like polished chrome,
Tall tombstones of lost Titans long since dead.
Then at each monumental dawn’s sharp red
Its pomp recalls an otherworldly Rome
Below the vault of starry heaven’s dome
Linked to the stars by unseen silver thread.
When evening comes the halflight plays upon
Each menhir, as the Sun dips from the sky,
And trumpets blare to sound oblivion,
Here where the sad and sable shadows lie,
A land of rarely guessed deep sorcery,
A place of dark unfathomed mystery.
Please tell me what you think

I like this a lot. I have seen Stonehenge & a few other stone circles in my country, this is almost like being there. They do inspire a certain awe, especially Stonehenge (well, it was either that or the Carlsberg Special Brew).

Very very good work
It reads as a magical mysterious place that has a compelling feel about it that seems hypnotic, and draws the reader in.
There is also a melancholy here, and something that is indefinable, that cannot be explained,in mere words.

Superb plus
Once again a very fine write, indeed, my friend. Imagery, rhythm and rhyme are just fine. For those who may not know what a 'menhir' is, I thought I'ld give you a 'footnote' (URL):

Food for thought
While sitting on the floor with my two-year old nephew, playing with blocks, I thought of the standing stones of Corwall, Brittany, Scotland and other places his ancestors lived and wondered at the instinct that passes through generations, compelling people to erect columns, raise an ebenezer or create a circle of rocks. I think all of humanity must be contained in each cell. An unfathomed mystery, indeed.
This is a wonderful poem.

The first eight are amazing in their description, powerful and impressive...the last six are equally impressive and grab the reader with their tone and air of mystic importance. A lovely sonnet; all your sonnets are lovely..

Very cool. I've long been intrigued by Stonehenge and I was actually just reading about it last night. One of these days I'm going to visit it.
