Halloween Screams

They masquerade inside darkened houses,
where rats crawl and skitter to their doom
and the "family" lies in wait for the hour
when they can vacate each casket room.

The hallowed eve falls in ebon joy,
creeping across the imperiled lands,
anticipation of gluttonous satiation
filling evil curdling hands.

God did not spawn this anti-Christ-breed,
devils that sweep across their victims
with their charming ways promising love,
hypnotic eyes held by blood red rims.

They travel through that loathsome night,
looking for a different kind of prey.
Some blood they drain just to feed their urges,
others are tainted, never again to see day.

When you go out into the night of ghouls,
offer your bag for "Trick or Treat"
remember, some of your neighbors may be waiting
to sever young veins so they can eat.

Watch for bats soaring in the night,
for wolves in costumes that look life-like.
Never lock eyes with a handsome stranger
lest it be you that will need the spike.
