Ursula
Was the usherette
Of the Glitterhouse;
She’d seen the movie
So many times,
That it bored her silly
To even hear
The soundtrack
If she turned away
Her yawning gaze.
She leaned
Against the wall;
Musing on the whispered
Words of the guy
In the back row;
A date he wanted,
Thinking her some
Easy lay;
Some two-bit broad
He could have
At will after a meal,
Drink and all.
She had given him
Small change
Of conversation;
Told him to go
Swim in a lake
Of crocodiles;
And he had laughed,
Impressed, she thought,
By her wit and bite;
And maybe,
She thought,
She’d see him
Some night,
If the price was right,
If his eyes were ok,
Not too close together,
And maybe
If it went well,
She’d become
Another’s guy’s girl.
