wanderlust

nightfall:
its dusky petals
cover the garden arbors

miniature wands of light

gloss the walkway

a bench is empty of people
but taken with restlessness

my mood is filled with climbing roses,
rambling vines
and the wayward seeds of flowers

Your subtlety is always amazing. You say exactly what needs to be said; the result unerringly beautiful and universally, deeply effective.

I like this poem very much - the imagery is beautiful, but I respond more to the mood of restlessness which, taken with the title, and the climbing, rambling, wayward words of the final stanza, give me an acceptance of moving, maybe before it happens, but it is there...

    This makes me smile.

You write such happy love poetry, which is a great break from my heartbreak writes. I love the metaphor of night as a flower, and light as a paint (gloss).

    Beautiful.

Well yes it seems it's all been said before my arrival, but I gotta add mine . Gorgeous, such a breath of air.. the last stanza, brought a smile as I felt your mood. Just a perfect little gem of a piece from beginning to end, wonderful use of imagery, so glad as always to have the good fortune to read you..

i can't help but think that the empty bench in stanza three will -- in the restless light of a new day -- be filled with people in love. the question is whether we are looking backwards, as you seem very reflective in this poem, or forward with new beginnings that grow, like hope, from wayward seeds. or . . . or, you are a sucker for the seductive romanticism of nature in your own backyard -wonderingfish

    I like this part

    everybody loves the gloss walkway
    I love that too

    I love everything honestly

  • WoW looks as if everyone already said, all that could be said, about this very lovley piece of poetry. Except I really don't think that you know just how good you are. Your talent is truly a gift.
    Perfectly penned again, my friend.

the first stanza makes me feel shrouded.. like i am the arbor needing a night or day out...
the next section led me to a window... watching and wishing ... they are miniature because being in darkness - i can only handle so much at once...
the bench holds spirits of all who have visited and like me become restless
and then i loved the beauty you added with the roses- such a delicate flower to choose
rambling vines... for yes she may be fragile and precious but she has her ways about her that want to weave themselves into other people... and part of her already has
and then it is like i see her burst through the doors...floating on the winds like the seeds to grow and become

I adored where this took me- even if it wasn't where you went writing it..

thank you for taking the time to read me and leaving such a wonderful comment

Love the title, obviously. It makes me want to wander and play with unicorns, LoL.

This is what I'd call "pretty writing", but not the shallow kind of pretty writing w/o meaning...this is depth AND prettiness combined--rare much?!!!

    Nice.

Love your diction, especially 'nightfall' and 'dusky'.

    "gloss the walkway"
Couldn't help but think of a runway here... Especially with 'gloss'.

"a bench is empty of people
    but taken with restlessness"
The best 2 lines of the poem.
Amazing--what an observation full of insight.

    Loveth this poem. !

I have not read many of the poems in the 'popular' section of this site, but the sensual woman-written themes like your Wanderlust seem to be very popular. I can see why. You, the poet, know how to show me, the reader, the subtle curves of love that take us so close to the cliffs of lust. Thank you for your guiless art.

This has a mystic feeling to it when you begin...
and what a beginning it is!!! You have this soft suttle way of conveying imagery that I envy...in a good way .

    I love the second stanza...
    miniature wands of light
gloss the walkway...like moonbeams raining down to light the way - Sigh...

and the rest gives me a feeling of restlessness, the need to sew wild oats so to speak...in a calm and serene way of course.

I do think this is one of your best Tara. Alot of thought went into these few words so well placed so as to bring the reader into the moment...

    Yeah
    good stuff for sure.

no bullshit either, just plain truth.

I am never sure I am able to convey how much of an impression you skillfully make on the page, you weave imagery and emotion with such softness yet leave a firm impression. Not another word needed nor any that are superfluous, a tasteful treat of a poetic interlude.

Simply wonderful but nothing simple about it.

    Kudos.

Beautifully written; this makes me think of walking through back roads at dusk in the fall when its to cold for anyone else to come out but not cold enough to keep you inside. I've always been a lover of all thing beautiful so this poem really made me smile.

    Great job!

  • So vivvid, being in a pleasant friendly garden on the outside... and inside:

'my mood is filled with climbing roses,
    rambling vines
and the wayward seeds of flowers'

... making us share being there. A time taken 'out', to dream and contemplate tastes and possibilities.

    Wonderful!

'a bench is empty of people but taken with restlessness" love this imagery, and the emotional connection that presents itself for the reader, I get the author's urge/need to move through this beautifully set mood.

lovely. i love that you used the "wayward seeds of flowers" to describe a feeling of restlessness - so expressive and unusual.
"supernatural power" after "white wands" seems unneccessary, redundant. feels like the stanza would make the same point without it. but all in all this is very vivid. a great read. - Mary Jo

    this is really lovely
love, love, love the final stanza- i wonder about the second stanza.. supernatural powers feels more telling than showing in a poem rich with imagery...
    perhaps: miniature white wands
gloss the path (love gloss the path)
    ...

just a thought.. wonderful setting and scene
