Facets

“You have been my friend. That in itself is a tremendous thing.
I wove my webs for you because I liked you.
After all, what's a life, anyway?
We're born, we live a little while, we die.”
                                      E.B. White, Charlotte’s Web

and so like charlotte
          sophisticated
she weaves such
dew-laced intricacies -
silken threads of
filigree salutations (spun as
radiant morsels that catch the unaware)
painstakingly deconstructed
and rebuilt
offspring carried away on winds

and so like alice
              surreal
awash with allegory
her musings mingle
a topsy-turvy
tumble through chess game
wonderment and make-believe
a flummox
fraught with lavish lexicon
the absurdity of reality revealed

and so like sylvia
            searching
sluices of expression
multifarious
in medium and message emerge
(the self surveyed
tangibility interpreted) in
rich allusion and reflection
driven
to create perfection

Charlotte's Web is one of my absolute favorites. Believe it or not I have a [unfinished] Charlotte's Web song!

Loved this poem. Great word play and allusions show the vast web of feminine complexity... I dig it.

hate is a strong word... and i only question the use in poems at times, but i think i have previously conceded it is part of your style and i know you love those "..." i use 'em quite frequently in comments *smiling back*

one of my original thoughts was to write a tribute to liza..
in fact a couple poems ago i used one of the lines from my own liza tribute in an entirely different poem.. i didn't write her tribute because nothing sounded right- i think she is inexplicable- let me rephrase
i thought she was inexplicable- but you have done a wonderful job of capturing both a piece of her style
    and piece of the woman

    this is wonderful- just wonderful

I learn a new word today- reify. I think it apply to this poem, mainly because it give me an opportunity to use the word. When I look up the definition, I immediately think of her poems.

Charlotte's Web was one of my favourite books as a child; that along with Anne of Green Gables. I like what you've done with this...it gives me the feeling of a free spirit.

  • I'm so glad you did this.

Liza is well deserving of such a write here in this 'invitation' ... and you have done it, I believe exquisitely!

I hope she loves it and well believe she will.

    Fantastic Job!!!
