She was small
and cheeky
bright as a button
and sang like an angel
She laughed
and joked
was always there
always noticed
but never
the star
We all loved her
all wanted her
as a friend
but somehow
she slipped
through the net
when she wasn't there
we missed her
missed her fun
missed her voice
missed her
Small
brown
and pretty
She was
our sparrow
I hope she comes back

What I like most about this is the soft gentle longing, almost like you didn't notice your sparrow until she wasn't there anymore--and, you have this wonderful way of making us wonder what happened--why is she gone...
This is quite lovely, and I am so pleased to read this in the contest.

Bravo! Standing in Applause!
Soft and delicate, like the sparrow. I love to see you stepping out of your comfort zone...you simply soar in this free verse. Line breaks are good, imagery is quite strong, and the metaphor is more than amazing. Oh my, I liked this very much.

This is lovely and thought provoking. I can think of human sparrows that I miss.
