Contemplation on the Cross

Missing image

Jesus tell me what you see
Hanging symbolized . . in agony
As I gaze at you upon your cross
I wonder, was your sacrifice a loss

Or do you think your dreadful pain
Will encourage you to come again
Or will you leave us to our own device
For we’re not worth such sacrifice

In Jerusalem Jews and gentiles bicker as before
And we have a perpetual holy war
2,000 years since you and Caiaphas debated
Yet a conclusion by us is still awaited

In fact things are now worse than before
For we are obsessed by Holy War
Though 2,000 years have passed away
Few adhere to what scriptures say

It’s said you took man’s sin upon yourself
But we sin even more as we search for wealth
I know oil was not coveted in your time
But it has become an essential part of mine

Continually religion seems to be a curse
When spiritual people are converse
What did you achieve with your sacrifice?
Do you ever regret you paid such a price?

Forlornly gazing from your cross
Do you think your teaching a total loss?
Is mankind now reaping what it sows?
For you haven’t really healed mans woes

Dear Jesus I’m confused I must confess
Which religion is the best?
Or does it make more sense to abstain
For conflicting religions are to blame

Should we simply pray to God . . direct?
Ignoring religions and those that they elect
Beseeching God directly makes more sense
And offers far more likely recompense

Dear Jesus tell me what you see
Hanging there symbolized in agony
As I gaze at you upon your cross
I ponder, was your sacrifice a loss

    Very thoughtful

    "Forlornly gazing from your cross

Is mankind now reaping what it sows?
For you haven’t really healed mans woes"

Jesus's teaching is not a total loss to the small extent that it has influenced people to LOVE THEIR ENEMIES and DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO DESPITEFULLY USE THEM.

Jesus doesn't control failed mankind, only suggests the peaceful path.

    Powerful!

Albert, this is very moving and speaks volumes concerning the state of this world. We, as humans, tend to use the purest things or ways and truths and turn them into reasons for what we do. I don't. And others don't, yet there is a "Holy War," and I've been infuriated even at the fact they would use this word to describe war. It's not of a Holy nature at all. I can only imagine at the sadness Jesus feels. Very powerful write! I'm working on your e-mail. Thank you for touching base with me. Times are hard and we seem to be busier than usual and that is hard too. I send my love to you and family.
    As always,
    Your friend,
    Kelly

I know everyone is praising the piece, and the story behind it is sound, but I just find that the rhyming is way to forced, and because of that some of the lines don't flow like they should. It really seems to need some more work done on it so that it moves more naturally.

First of all, it is amazing that we contemplate the life of an itenerate teacher/carpenter who lived in the edge of the great Roman empire 2000 years ago. When literature was difficult, and writng was about the elite kings, his friends sold their lives dearly to convince the world this man was God's revelation of love and purpose for the world. "That which is concealed, belongs to God; but what is revealed belongs to us, and to our children." God is concealled in life, walking a fine line of leaving evidence of himself, and not violating each individual's choice to believe in him. Our choice requires faith to please God, and once we draw near to him, he will draw near to us, and begin our time of knowledge and purpose. In parables Christ indicates that it is that nearness, that friendship that will effect salvation, and many religious have missed that criterion.

On knowledge, can a two year old really know his father? A four year old? Does the father enjoy their company? The key is to seek his heart, and become like him, love people for their potential, rather than their failures. And yes, we are worth it...
  • This is amazing!! You did an incredible job portraying this write!!! You have an excellent word flow!!! No Jesus's sacrifice was not a loss He came into the world to save us because He wants us to live with Him in eternity forever!! And He will come back again for us one day!!!

wow, i thought this was awesome.....and i feel the exact same way, i know i believe we have a creator, but the truth has been hidden, so what are we to believe?
and how easy is it, in our world of our REALITY, to believe the whole nature of your exsistance is for something that was already known before it happened , all knowing, ....WHY then, make this ....??!!! ....i dont know if i made any sense or just sound like rambling ..... but i think you beautifully wrote this , God Bless.....
