Please

There was someone I knew who had years to go
She was actually by my standards young.
She had an awful lot to give to the world
She just never knew.
Screamed at and told she was useless
And to be like her elder brother
She boxed herself in and closed the world out.
She would sneak into her mothers medicine cabinet
And search out tiny pills that made her big.
She learned which pills were which on the internet.
One day she decided to make a cocktail of colors
Just to see what it did.
The next thing she knew she was on the floor spinning
Her stomach churning and eyeballs burning.

She was one of the lucky ones she walked away from death.
She walked away from addiction,
But not her parents pain.
She finally left at the age of 18
Pursuing her dreams at community college
Sharing an apartment with someone she found in an ad.

But like I said she is  one of the lucky ones
I know so many that have given up there dreams.
Please don't let this be you.
