took the easy road instead.
Ignored their every warning,
now you must sleep in your own bed.
Tell your Grand Parents you are sorry,
for look what we have done.
Brought this country to its knees,
by doing exactly what they told us was wrong.
Now as you stand without a home,
and find yourself feeling so alone.
I say for the young today its a lesson learned,
love respect and the ways of life doesnt come in a credit card son.
Live within your means how many times did they say,
make sure of what you buy you will be able to pay.
Teach your children respect but today you so ignored,
the ways of your elders and feeling lost for sure.
Even those who have followed their elders plans,
are today finding themselves with no place to stand.
So listen up and look about at what you have done,
and our Grand parents were right all along.
We are all at fault dont you see,
the baby boomers you and me.
We did it our way but today hits home,
all the warnings our elders have given all along .
Can you do without the frills the tv the computors for real,
will you draw your family near and get love back into gear.
Or will you continue to rely on the drugs,
and walk away from your families and swep it under the rug.
Oh this country is in for a very hard time,
and being so spoilt I ask who will be able to find.
What it takes to survive and hold love true,
tell me will you honestly know what to do.
Take the time to go to your Grand Parents and tell them you are sorry today,
Tell them you are sorry you didnt listen to them along the way.
Beg their forgiveness and ask them what do I do,
and you wont really like it for its not a pleasant muse.
Sell everything and pay on your debts,
live with far far less.
Hold love as your fortune for there nothing more precious indeed,
and if this time you are listening better days you shall see.
For your love and understanding and respect for one another will cushion the blow,
And to share the footsteps in reaching out in time will show.
That if we can keep the sparkle of love within each others eyes,
nothing in this world is more important in life.
Author notes
I think we all need to apologise to our grand parents today for we chose not to listen and look what shape our country is in today . From our children on up are we proud of what we have done look abvout yourselves and ask yourself was it worth it to work and have so many things while your children have been forgotten along the way untaught of respect and so many untaught of how to love or care . I think a lot of parents should tell their children they are sorry as well . For not caring enough to make them mind and show respect to be responsible for them and be the parent they should have been .

Being part native american I was taught to listen to my elders and still do even though I am also considered an elder now!
Loved this!

I agree with one of people who have already commented on this wonderful piece; if our grandparents could see the shape our country is in, they would roll over in their graves! I think we should apologize to not only our grandparents, but parents, and espeically to our children and grandchildren, for the condition of the world they are inheriting. This is a wonderful piece, doing what all really great poetry does...it stirs up feelings inside that are looking for an outlet. Excellent work!

I dont have anygand parents or even parents but if they could see the mess we are all in they would turn in their grave. Ours is not sucha material family, so we are very close with plenty of love a sparkling, but we will need to draw closer than ever I fear to keep warm this winter. This is a great write tanks so much for sharing it with us, and have a beautiful day

Wow, this rendered me speechless for a few minutes.
Very touching and very strong points in there.
I tell my grandparents how I feel every day...
perhaps wherever they are now, they can hear me. Thank you for sharing this.

Very profound statements you make in these lines - so true as well. Each generation wants more for their kids than they had growing up, and all we have done is made it so much worse for them. No accountability, no responsibility, no consequences for their actions. They have everything they want - and did not have to even work for it. Now the bottom is falling out and we are all to blame.... Good write.

This was unbelievably beautiful. I really enjoyed it, grandma. It drew me near and I just couldn't leave it till i was finished. It's very true, love is the key to this world's happiness we all know that and all neglect that, that's why we are far from each other and life is harder than it should be.
I always say: 'Who said life was fair? But, isn't it us who makes it unfair?'
Very true and inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
