Have you ever seen a soldiers bible,
in-cased in metal and colored gold.
Often the pages have become loosened,
from all the use out in the cold.
It's pages are smudged ,
from the fingers of heroes today.
And within unusual bookmarks,
blades of grass or a leaf often stained.
Pictures of loved ones you often find within,
and memories of home and love brings a forced grin.
Many of our soldiers can bring this bible to life ,
when was the last time you looked into a soldiers eyes .
A place where a child became a man,
trembling and the knowledge of foreign lands.
Have you taken the time to give them a hug today,
for keeping all that violence from our country for such a price they do pay.
How many of our soldiers spoke to God while under siege,
in the rain and heat and the forever threat whispering God please.
Times where they know for a fact God intervened,
and saved that soldier from certain death it seemed.
I have one of those metal Bibles my husband brought home,
even today at times I see him with it for only he does know.
That through his time in Vietnam God was so aware ,
and saved him from the enemy as he stood in the devils lair.
As he lifts that little Bible there is a look in his eyes,
of the times saved and the horrors of many a night .
The bloodstains on its cover from comrades lost he prays,
and the soldiers legacy holds their spirit-es in a hearts embrace and the wind beneath their wings this day .
