My Friend..

Missing image
For years I have had no one
No one to call my friend
To share with me their laughter
Or stay to the bitter end

It wasnt what I wanted
Not how I chose it to be
Circumstance and personal sadness
Stole the joy of life from me

I let myself be sucked way down
I lounged on depressions floor
A place that knew no sunlight
Until my friend knocked on the door

Ive always been a worker
Always earned an honest crust
But for the past nine years...or ten
My dreams were nought but dust

I languished in a hole so deep
Wrapped up in my despair
To me I felt the world was gone
No one any longer cared

Yet I clung on to the vaguest hope
That one day my troubles would end
That day was when I found the truth
I am my own..best friend

This is a sad poem but a poem of realization that the first friendship we need to nurture is a friendship with ourself. Circumstances will bring us low but never break us for we are never alone anymore.
    Good thoughtful write, my friend.

"That day was when I found the truth

Those two lines define what we all learn about ourselves, and that's that you can't count on anyone but yourself. Friends come and go, but you have to live with yourself throughout your time on this earth. Great write, keep it up.

That is a wonderful truth to discover!!! When you can like and love yourself that is when you are truly able to love others also. "To thine own self be true!" But as to no one caring...perhaps sometimes a person doesn't allow them to.

    Wow, very deep and interesting.
Sometimes all you have is yourself
in life. I love the thought that you
put into this. Great work my friend!
