Momma

Momma, what was it like
when Daddy came home
with his girlfriend
in tow
and then left you?

Was it like being trapped
in a small alcove
while he placed
brick after brick
into place?
Until darkness
enveloped you
and you screamed
until finally you starved,
ever waiting for him to come back?

Or was it like
he placed a garrote
around your throat
and you suddenly
realized he was not joking
and would die?
But he released you
and now all you
have is the memory
of a brutal awakening.

So, what was it like, Momma?

You write heartfelt and emotional poetry. It has true feeling, and I could feel the pain behind this question.

Although I was extremely blessed to have been raised by two loving parents I can share in your sorrow. Fortunately, for me, I didn't have to ask the questions you've asked here until after I left home.

    Sincerely,
    Leo Long

"Brutal" is a good word for the imagery you have used here. It's a realistic depiction of the suffering the poor woman went through when she was betrayed.

This is a great questioning piece celadia. I am moved so much by this; so deeply moving. I could hear the voice of a child begging the question, "So, what was it like, Momma?" Yet, the innocence of it all was amazing. Thank you for posting this.

This is grizzly and dark. Reminds me of a piece by Poe where someone was bricked in. Frightening. Thank you for your entry

Did she protect you? What a cry of pain here.
