From despair comes hope

From despair comes hope

I once was lost and feeling sad
and said to dad I must be bad.
I felt that I was falling down
into a pit and thought I’d drown.
Unable to reach the top again
I hurt - I suffered so much pain.

Dad held my hand and told a tale
how once he went right off the rails.
He did some things against the law
and when his Mum found out he swore
an oath to never see her cry
again. He said he’d rather die.
.
He had no worth or self esteem;
he felt so bad that he could scream.
He said his Dad  then took his  hand
And said: ‘My son,  I think you’re grand
so hold your head up high and smile
and come and stay with us awhile.

“You are not bad. You never were
you just went wild - it does occur.’
From that day on he promised Dad
he’d find a job and be a good lad.
He met my Mum and they were wed
and he became a good man instead.

A smile appeared on my Dad’s face,
‘The way you feel is no disgrace.
We have our times of feeling blue;
be thankful that your heart is true.
Enjoy your life and don’t feel sad
for you my daughter can’t be bad.

“Be good and kind and you will know
your heart and soul will always glow”
A wave of love had covered me;
I felt the calm of being free
to live my life as though reborn.
I woke to find a new day dawn.

So now I know the truth at last
that I can turn and change my past
and now my life is full of hope,
to know at last that I can cope.
My Dad, he taught me life goes on;
I can reach stars when fears have gone.

…to do my best and just be me -
the kind of gal I’d like to be.

    It is wonderful when we are accepted as we are, prone to error, human, mistake-makers... I love the inspiration written here Jen. Very sentimental and quite the beautiful, lyrical poetry! Another one Edna and Hugh can smile, and sigh over.

    The best to you in the contest.

    Much Love ♥

    We all make mistakes in life and those of us who learnfrom them go on to appreciate what we have a little more. A great positive poem for those who think they have no where to turn to.

    the positive side of a fall is that we learn how to stand up, shake the hurt away and be strong for the next one.

    Hi Jen!

    I really enjoyed your poem! It's encouraging and inspirational! You are lucky to have a Dad who loves and understands you and who takes the time to teach you important things, e.g., It's so important to forgive yourself and it's never too late to 'turn over a new leaf'.

    Best of Luck in this contest!

    Dear Jen,

    As PERKCAO you do all that you should
    which shows the truth that came from Dad's insight.
    In you there is no bad but only good,
    no conscious wrong but conscientious right.

    You do not harbour grudges but forgive
    all those who may unwittingly offend
    and, following the rule: "live and let live"
    you prove yourself to be a steadfast friend.

    False prudery or sham do you eschew
    as being incompatible with you.

    Thankyou for sharing this appealing poem and its simple moral truths. Best of luck in the voting.

    Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh (R.)

    There is this quote by some famous general, something like, "The nature of the man isn't how hard he hits bottom but by how high he bounces back when he does." And that is the moral of this poem I think. The ultimate of lemons into lemonade...it has a softness to it and yet tells a moral. Me like.
