Waves, Chocolate & Pints of Bitter

The acid guitar
sounds of an ancient vinyl
long playing record

irradiate through
the information super-
highway wi-fi hub

and reproduce on
the tiny speakers of my
laptop computer.

And I ponder on
times when I seemed more happy
with some relative

positivity
and glass half-full bloke kind of
optimistic moods.

But it isn't true
because I was negative
in those days as well.

For some strange reason
I keep thinking of chocolate
and pints of bitter.

    Brilliant!

This is a great write & even though I'm a teetotaler I can certainly identify! There are many times in hind sight we thought we were happier in the past, but if we check our fantasies at the door, realize that we were always living a life of quite desperation! This is a wonderful form you've created & you write such profound chains!

Wow! you having a bummer day?

The blah’s miasma expressed through concrete images seems to indicate mastery of the medium as well as long term depression. Nice juxtaposition with the usual endorphine producing panaceas. I especially enjoy acid guitar and ancient vinyl. Still sounds good anyway.

Just in case it was lost in translation a pint of bitter is a term for a pint of English 'real ale'. There is also 'Mild ale'. Mild is darker in colour (more like a Guinness) & has aromatic hops to give a sweeter flavour. It is not as powerful as bitter & was consumed by foundry men & miners as they could drink a fair bit without becoming overly intoxicated. Bitter beer is not like continental Lager-beer but is more like a Milk Stout (like Beamish or Guinness) but the barley isn't roasted to give it the same colour as stouts. Taxation (of stouts) in England in the 18th century ended the production of most Milk Stouts. This did not apply in Scotland or Ireland. Contrary to popular belief in the continental United States; English real ale has never been served warm & is chilled slightly before being poured. However it is not chilled as cold as lager, but lager has virtually no taste anyway (I have drunk some decent lagers in Germany) & needs to be served ice cold! The ambivalence of the noun substantive 'bitter' & the difference between that & the adjective was noted.

Why does it always seem we were happier when..........

When the when becomes now, I guess then we'll know happiness!!

Ah yes my friend! Too much time spent thinking. Empty the glass and fill it again. If you want chocolate too? Go for it!

I like the contrast in the final stanza, sweet/bitter, like family memories. Sound waves, but it's up to you to see them as 'hello' rather than 'goodbye'

even played on my computer speakers, Hendrix sounds better than ever he did on vinyl. maybe our memories of sound are not exact?

He always sounded like an awful racket, that's for sure. I am the only person I know who thought the Band of Gypsies were better than the 'Experience'. I do like Voodoo Chilli though. You have to be careful how many shrunken heads you put in with the chilli or you well get the zombie runs...
