Heat

It’s always winter in my heart—
A place where desert sands blow
Fitfully, everlasting—
Where the cold winds freeze
A tear on the face of the colder sky—
Blue, blue, blue…
Calm, clean slate
Worn to azure darkness,
Split by shafts of radiance,
By sun effulgent in the blissful night—
Cello-deep, blood-deep,
Troubled by clouds, I frown
And sigh softly, pulling my muffler tight,
Spreading my arms wide
To embrace the white sleek chill…
Warmth is a blessing to cold hands,
And a smile is a balm to a lonely heart.
Your unconscious warmth
Melts all ice in me,
Pulling blossom through the snow—
Although it is always winter in my heart,
And nothing thrills me like the taste of ice
And wildness,
I pray that someday soon
A day or two of halcyon spring
May touch my soul…
