How do you do it?

How do you do it?
Day in and day out
Abuse and disown,
your very body?
Your very mind?
Your very essence?

I can't see how you manage
going on like you're doing
Living in your own world
Of the smoke, and the smack
A world you create-
For yourself.

I can't see why you, of any
Someone I used to know so well
Used to laugh with, and play with
What happened?
To drive you to such madness?

Now, you're but a slave
To your drugs, and your drinks
And to the life they give you
But, perhaps you're happy
Clad in the friendship of others
Besides mine.

But, go on
Don't mind me in the least
I'll just sit here, and wonder
What those drugs have done to you

Author notes

I've never had problems with drugs of my own, but i'm perpetually surrounded by those that do. This is the view of an outsider.

Wow great write, Im sure this is how some of my friends must have felt when they saw me going down the path of druguse. I used to be anti-drug..heh. but im better now. I really enjoyed the poem. Just remember that if you are their friend its almost your responcibilty to talk to them abotut their problem. Thats how i quit. My good friends bugged me till i realized what i was doing was bad. Just dont piss them off, that only makes it worse. i should know. Anyway, thank you for entering this contest, I enjoyed your poem. Good Luck!
