Lord God, bend to take my hand
Lead me through this barren land.
I've gone where I should never go.
Better than this, I should know.
I've fallen and sunk so low
Do you still love me so?
I began with such good intent
When my love was new and different
I believed I would change myself
The past I knew would undo itself.
But we carry back our burdens
Our sick selfish selves worsens.
Our demons return seven fold
As we return to the ways of old.
Lord God, bend to take my hand
Lead me through this barren land.
I've nowhere left to turn
Freedom is what I yearn
I've fallen and feel so low
I'm lost and have no place to go
Those I thought were my friends
Have been the cause of my bitter ends.
I paid them for their love and affection
But their love was a mere reflection.
Lord God, bend to take my hand
Lead me through this barren land.
One step in the wrong direction
And I slip beyond my conviction.
The way out doesn't seem to be revealed.
Though I've cried dire prayers as I kneeled.
I've gone where I should never go.
Where your river of life doesn't flow.
I've fallen and I feel so low.
Yet you are here and love me so.
My Lord God has bent to take my hand
And leads me through this barren land.
Back to where living waters flow
For His love is stronger than I know.

Great poem, I had to reread after reading it was inspired by "Fallen", I love that song. The hand of Grace, His strength, lifting in love, when it seems the self is unloveble and has fallen.

Thank you. It is very personal for me. I felt exactly what this poem says. It is written from my experience. That is why I was so inspired by Sarah McLachlan's song "Fallen." I could relate. I hope it is an encouragement to those who have felt what I felt.

absolutely wonderful and truthful
amazing! it's beautiful! you worded this so well and you spoke so much truth. some of my favorite lines were:
I began with such good intent
When my love was new and different
I believed I would change myself
The past I knew would undo itself.
so many of us try to chaneg ourselves, and we can't do it! God has to work through us to change us. i'm so glad that he continually loves us. it's a wonderful feeling. this is a wonderful poem and thank you so much for entering! -

Changing ourselves is quite hard, but with His help it is easier. And when we slip up, He's there to catch us. It's a comfort to know that.

Thank you very much for your comment and encouragement.

very honest, very transparent, very vulnerable, and very beautiful. i commend you, my friend. just remember that it is the empying of the vessels natural strength, it's own ability to behave and act properly and carry out it's good intent that He actually longs for.... because it when we can end and He can begin. His strength is perfect in weakness.

Yes, the poem is a prayer. The last stanza is the answer to the prayer.

I like this poem, kinda sad but good. It started a little like a prayer but turns more poetic nearer the end (in my opinion)
-
Very good
I liked this poem, even though it's kind of sad... you did a nice job on it.
One part I liked especially:
Our demons return seven fold
As we return to the ways of old.
I just read some verses about that yesterday! "Very cool"- I love coincidences like that.
