There once was a man who lived on earth
Who only did good and what was right
From the day of his humble birth.
He was never too busy or too hurried
To hold little children in his lap.
Always was he relaxed and never was he worried.
He would heal the sick and the lame
Like the good physician he was.
He even had the power to remove guilt and shame.
He would breathe life into the very dead.
He modeled forgiveness and grace.
By his wisdom and truth people were fed.
The outcast and the hurting would come
To be healed of the their troubles and woes
And listen to his profound wisdom.
So we tortured and killed the man.
The powers that be triumphed in their envy
And those who truly loved him ran.
But don't you anguish and don't you fret
Over the true story I have told
Love has paid evil's debt.
Evil may have had its day.
You may crucify and murder love
But it cannot remain that way.
Later love will surely rise
Just as it did one glorious day
And in our hearts it will survive.
It's ours to keep the legacy alive
And to declare the truth
Of the love who died.

A delightful piece...
A delightful piece; truth can't help but flow from these words; nicely done. Perhaps you would enjoy my poem called "Spiritual Irony". --Joe

Love always triumphs- The life of Jesus Christ is an inspiring example of this maxim. I am a Hindu, yet I find something truly magical and wonderful about the story of Christ. A lovely write!

Simply Beautiful
I knew almost instantly of "this Man" you wrote of... Truly a beautiful and unique write that gladdens my heart greatly to have read this...
I honestly understand others comments about writing him as Him, but I think in a sense it lets others think about what's been written without seeing it's about Him and many people this type of write isn't their cup of tea. I truly found this amazingly done... Thank you for sharing this. Keep on writing you have lots to say, share, teach, and learn from yourself and others. Please do so... Take care of yourself and those you love. always ~Star -
I appreciate the comment. I'm glad you loved the poem. I do disagree with changing the case. Capitalization of personal pronouns is something done by some translations not all. In this case, I'm trying to shock the reader who does not initially recognize the person whom this poem is about. Though it's obivious to some, it may not be to all and hopefully will make one think about it.

That was very beautiful i loved it. Although you need to uppercase He and Him because you are showing Him respect when you do that. God bless though and excecellent write.

Very well wriiten, the twist is intact, the good man, suffering and dying the evil death, but rising to save the world. Excellent portrayal of the ultimate gift of love and sacrafice, Jesus Christ. Good luck with the contest.

A very unique way of interpreting the bible. Though I'm not a christian, this poem touched me in alot of other ways. It makes me think of this world today and how we take blessings and give nothing back. Very pretty poem by the way.

i could tell who the man was by the end of the first stanza, but thats only because i actually read the Bible and know some stuff about it
this is a very good write
to the uneducated (biblically) person, it definately has that informative twist, if i can call it that
puts it very plainly at the end that it is our responsibility to spread the word
thanks for the entry
