The Precious Gift Two Should Give

Missing image
Little girls have often been told
Of a precious gift they hold
That should not be bought nor sold.

Little girls guard this treasure
And wait to give this pleasure
Believing its value beyond measure.

Then comes that wonderful day
When she willing gives it away
To the man with whom she's committed to stay,

Only to find the most cruel betrayal,
For she's seen a false portrayal.
In her hurting heart she begins to wail

For little boys have never been told
Of the same precious gift that they hold
That should never be bought nor sold.

Author notes

Boys should be told of the same precious gift that should be guarded and given only when they marry. So much hurt and pain could be avoided if boys too would WAIT!

So very true. Thank you for getting this message out here. It's definitely something America (and the entire world) needs to hear.

that is completely true...i hate how girls these days just give it up with not commitment...and how guys don't realize that virginity is precious to everyone. that it shouldn't be just given up

I'm very confused by what you mean by a gift a girl has and a boy has. I don't understand this at all. Could you please explain this. I like the way you write and would like to understand some of your poetry even more.

The gift is her body (virginity). Girls are often told to save this gift for her husband. Boys are not told they have the same gift for that they should keep to give his wife.

    I TOTALLY AGREE...

Thank you so much for following directions and sending me the link to this! I was very happy to read it, and I believe it went well with the contest theme, even though I wasn't accpeting prewrites.

If parents only realized the power and influence in the lives of their children if they sought to teach them to protect such a valuable thing- their purity.

    Wonderful poem!

Wow, so true, dear poet! I've never read anything like this before; I value your ability to be so incredibly unique! You're sending out a wonderful message...I hope it makes all men think twice about the things they ask of us, haha. Anyways, this is great. Thank you so much for your kind words, take care, and good luck in all you do!

It makes a point i kinda agree with, it pisses me off how females are suppose to be verginal and are considered worthless and a whore once they lose it, while guys can do as many girls as they want and just be considered a "ladys man" or today a "playa", but i dont believe in marriage or any of that. but it was well written, and the way it ended did give it a good punch.

Such a great poem- I enjoyed reading this a lot. I wish more politically conservative people would enter my contest, I'd love to read some political entries A great poem- true message, chastity should be a responsibility of both parties, and so well written. Keep writing

This was sweet yet sad and yes I would have to agree with you on this one and if one is able to wait it is a gift and rather it be men or woman it is just as sacred.

I actually thought of writing more when I wrote it doing just that, but I think it has a greater impact when it ends with lines similar to the beginning ones. It gives a punch to the end, I think and implies that ALL girls have been told is TRUE for boys as well. At least that was the conclusion of my own internal debate. Thanks so much for the comment.
