Wasting My Life Away (Based on Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet)

Wasting My Life Away
(Based on Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet)

Time for me to wake
From taking this break
All of my life is covered with soil
Pretending I'm the king
As I play and sing
Hear the party calling me away from toil

Wasting my life away in my own little shell
Searching for my lost purpose to live
Some people claim that my parents are to blame
But I know it's not their fault

I don't know the reason
I'm in a dry season
Nothing to show for my life; it's so true
No meaningful duty
No claim to bring beauty
How it got here I haven't a clue

Wasting my life away in my own little shell
Searching for my lost purpose to live
Some people claim that society's to blame
Now I think
How, it could be my fault

Just one more hit today
To take the pain away
But it only gets worse than before
So I go on another bender
Hoping it will render
That peaceful deception that helps me hang on

Wasting my life away in my own little shell
Searching for my lost purpose to live
Some people claim that there's another to blame
But I know it's my own true fault

Author notes

Base on Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffett. This poem is saying (albeit with touch of humor) if we are wasting our life, it's not our parent's fault or society's fault as some would have us think. It's our fault; It's our responsibility,

Yes, I am long winded, but this one I blame on Buffet cuz I was immitating his song. One of the faults I'm trying to over come is longwinded poems.

Hello, and you thought I was long winded. But I look at it like this, when the guys go fishing they can throw the line in time and time again, and bait the hook and never care how smelly they get. And the hunter who goes out to shoot a deer, goes to great preparation pains,--and longer to clean it and freeze it--but when the heart is in pain there is no timelime. Pain flows and flows and if your lucky you know how to write it down and release it, because so many do not have this gift. But then, I suppose, you are saying, give my brain a rest because this coment is too long. But, my friend, you write a rather long but completely paved avenue that leads to and from the source of your heartache--I am going to bookmark you and read you again and again. I like your honesty--even if you are longwinded! lol truce?

AMEN!!! I agree, I agree. My life...my choices...and nobody answers for me except ME. I liked the humorous flair you've added to this piece. But it packs so much truth as well. This was really great. Thank you so much for sharing this.
