What Gives My Life Meaning
There are fond memories I'll have
All my life, though some will fade,
Some forever, some will never.
Some have gone and some remain.
All memories have their moments,
But it's people I'll recall best of all.
Some are dead and some are living.
In my life, I've loved them all.
To all of these friends and loved ones
There is one thing true that remains forever:
Without them all life loses meaning.
If we think of love as something small,
We'll loose the purpose for which we're living.
It's people not things that we live for.
I know I pause often to think about them.
In my life, I've loved them all.
All memories have their moments,
But it's people I'll recall best of all.
Some are dead and some are living.
In my life, I've loved them all.
Author notes
Music moves me. I love Beatles's "In My Life." It was the ispiration for this piece. There are similarities but The Beatles speak of one loved best while mine is a commentary on the importance of relationships.

I can't take credit for the repeating 'in my life, I loved them all.' That was John and Paul

Plagiarism does not include the adoption of character types, general plots, or other ideas from existing works. Nearly all writers and artists do such borrowing, but they express the ideas in new ways. - World Book 2001. (2001). Chicago: World Book.

I love the song "In My Life" and I love this poem because it is almost exactly the same thing. When you say "inspired" by, do you mean that you basically just changed a few words from the original song? I mean, I'm not sure how different a work has to be to question plagiarism, but this seems really close. I'm not up on all that. I love the Beatles, too, and I'm sure John Lennon and Paul McCartney would get a great kick out of this poem.

The more of your work I read the more I want to read. I love how you put so much meaning and emotion into your writes that is what I like is when people write from the heart and I can feel what the person is trying to convey. Awsome as always and I totaly agree with what you have stated in this

Thanks for the comment and the links. I wanted to post the original lyrics myself but was afraid of copyright violations. I hope people take the time to read the original and even listen to the song. It's a wonderful piece by two of the most talented song writers and poets.
Sometimes I hear a song and a phrase from it takes on personal meaning for me. Such was the case in the lines "In My Life I loved them all." It was these words and the meaning behind them that is expressed in my version.
Thanks for the comment. -
one of my all-time favourite songs. yes, your version is very similar. for those unfamiliar with the original lyrics, here is a link with the words to the lennon/mccartney song.

Kind of at a loss for words here. This very touching. Even as we grow old, we are still able to remember way back, when we can't even remember the morning. Is that a gift? I am sure it is. very nice write.
