A Manchester Tart
is not a woman, at heart
But a pie,
filled with custard and jam, that,s a tart.

A cookie,is not something
you eat,
But a person,
who,s slightly "off beat".

A fag, is something,
you smoke
not an unusal
happy and gay bloke.

This language,
of ours,that we share
is a complicated,
and a strange affair.

Lets share joy,
laughter and tears,
language goes round and round
So please lets find some common ground.

Words can cause such,
consternation,
But we can laugh and share hope,
We are, after all.....One Nation.

Like this.Great observations. This is very clever. Well written
I started a similar piece, but struggled:

I felt the wind, its name was Gail
For all my fishes come from Wales
I have a scratch, I call it Mark
Do silent fir trees lose their bark ?
Do two apples, make a pair ?
    Bias brunettes just aren’t fair
My yellow shirts are oh so blue,
    Waiting in a snooker cue
You say it’s raining cats and dogs
Does pea soup really come from fog?

Told you I struggled with it

I do believe fag was a common term for a cigarette in the states back in the forties or fifties. it seems it's been bastardized a bit... lol

I think we'll see a merging of most languages in time with the freedom of communication that the net gives us.
I also don't believe we're one nation, but one planet. I'm from earth, where are you from? lol

I like it but don't agree with the end bit about being one nation....cos we're not!!!! But its a great poem. The English have the best words. I couldn't live without bollocks and wanker and cunt and ahhhh all those good words.
